Having a great time going through the first half of IWD again: Sashii, my veteran Thief/Illusionist is seasoning in some fresh recruits, namely a bard and a fighter destined to dual over to druid.

I have noticed that AT LEAST once in Temple of Forgotten God, Sashi slept, yet did not regain ANY of her spent spells. Yes, the slots were pre-set with spells to fill in during sleep. No, sleep was not interrupted. (Well it was, several times; but I'm talking about the times it wasn't.)

I have IWD:HoW with ToTLM installed, latest patches available as of the time I installed everything (circa 10/2001) and frosted the whole thing off by installing the "No-CD" fix.

Anyone else have this "problem?" Is this supposed to happen (part of what's allowed by game rules) or is it a bug?

Thats happened to me too in Dragons Eye, and Severed Hand. I have no honest explanation. I think its just a bug, and if you just rest again, it seems to work just fine

Was there armour on her?

NobleNick 10-11-2002 10:28 PM

Good question for a multiclass character, Dundee; but No, nothing that she doesn't wear when she does get her spells back. Just a few robes...

Thanks, Sir Goulum, that's exactly what I did (rest again); and it worked. Nice to know about this quirk, since my most advanced party has just started Severed Hand.

What bummed me out was that I had already tried to sleep several times, but got woken up. Then, when I finally did get to sleep, it was for something like 19 days! Then I cruise around a bit and get into a big engagement and THEN find out I don't have any spells! Bummer.

edited to add third paragraph

If you rest from any screen other then the main screen (I personally use the inventory screen) the game will ask if you want to rest until healed or not.

I'm guessing you just rested at the main screen, and that you didnt have a cleric in the party. Trying to rest at the main screen defaults to "rest untill healed" which as I am sure you can understand, takes a long time w/out a healer.

It certainly does Seraph. My biggest "score" on resting so far is 26 days with a solo character!

I dont think that matters. Im fairly certain my mage/cleric was able to regain spells in armour, just not cast them.

If you do not have someone to watch over you while you sleep or rest in a 'safe' area, then the front character (the one at the top) will have to 'take the watch' - which means no sleep and therefore no refreshment of spells.

Oo-o-oh! That doesn't explain the spells, but does explain why my Fighter was fatigued after the party got done resting. Thanks, Ar-Cunin!

I've noticed occasionally that if your party isn't standing very close together when you rest, the off-screen mage may not regain spells. Be sure to rest in tight formation, away from doors to other areas, and make sure you can see every member of the party on the main screen.
