I really like it...but can anyone explain to me why they had to start you out with 0 XP???

Cause they pit you with weak stuff then it gets harder, and harder, and harder, until ITS FRIGGEN IMPOSIBL!!!j/k :D

It's sort of like BG1. Your characters are totally weak when you start, so that goblins and orcs are menaces. By the time you're in Chapter 2, though, you really start coming into your power.

Personally, I like starting from scratch. It's a great feeling to see your characters develop from fledglings to true heroes.

Cheers,

I like that they start you out that way as well. I think it gives you a good chance to develop your characters better.

Starting from scratch is what I believe to be the reason fo rhaving roleplaying games...After all if everyone started out as some upteenth level fighter/mage/cleric/thief with an Armor Class of -10 and weapons to challenge the gods with what fun would it be? Or more importantly...Who would you fight?

I started IWD right out of BGII:TOB so you can imagine my shock in going
from virtual God to goblin fodder. I got used to it though. After BG, I had
to be on my toes for IWD which made the game that much more fun (and realistic?)

Starting from scratch is a basic fundamental of roleplaying. When your kicking ass and taking names against critters like Fire Giants later in the game at least you will look back fondly to the days when you were running with your tail between your legs from a goblin armed with a non-enchanted bow. Yea, I guess I'm just used to Balurs Gate II where you start out at level 7. I seem to be getting used to it!

Hi again, Sir G. As the others mentioned, IWD differs from BG2 as you start at 1 and go on from there. Goblins and Orcs can actually kill you. But then you get tougher, but, gasp, the monsters get tougher. You buy and sell to get better stuff, kill more things, get tougher, and, gasp, the monsters keep getting tougher. Where did they learn this stuff, from some sick, demented old DM like Keraptisdm??
You'll enjoy this game quite a bit. A lot of dungeon trolling, so it's different than BG. Notice I said different, not better. Each game has it positive points. You want to see someone level up fast? When you get around 7th level or so, reform your party and bring in a new, first level character to your party. :D
