Ok, I had my Fighter/Theif halfling be proficient in missle weapons b/c I read somewhere that they get a bouns to missle weapons. However, I am considering switching him over to crossbows so that each of my 3 characters would be using different ranged weapons. My question is how much of a bonus does my halfling get for using missle weapons? Also, I know that theives are not supposed to use crossbows, but since mine is multied w/ a fighter, is there any penalities for having him use the crossbow?

IIRC they get a +1 bonus to hit with slings (and just slings), so it isn't that big a bonus - especially later in the game.

As a Fighter/Thief, you have access to additional weapons that a thief wouldn't normally have; you may take any proficiency, but as you know, only to 'specialisation' level. So there isn't a problem.
