My mage has 2 spots open in second level spells but doesn't have any known. How does he get to know spells?

Find a scroll , open it and read it. If your unlucky you might fail, but any mage with a decent INT score should be able to learn a level 2 spell.

thanks, I thought new spells would just appear with levels. That was driving me nutz. I didn't get an instruction booklet with the game.
