Never tried having a dual-class character before, and with only IWD (no expansions) when is the best time to switch classes to get the most out of your character? Any other helpful comments appreciated.

For a fighter there are two options:
lvl 3 - for a third slot in the missile weapon of your choice and quick regaining of skill
lvl 7 - for extra ½ attack pr round and more HP.
you typically dual to mage, cleric or druid.

thief: go to at least lvl 7 to get your thieving abilities high enough.

remember you need 15 in your 'old' primary characteristic (STR for fighter, DEX for thief) and 17 in your 'new' primary characteristic (INT for mages, WIS for cleric and druid(?) )

hope this helps

Also, remember to dual class to a druid, your alignment will have to be true neutral.
