Guess I'm asking a biased audience, here, but - how good is this game? I'm looking forward to the sequel but I never played this one. Should I bother to buy it or just wait for IWD2? Thanks.

Yes, go ahead and get the game. I liked it very much--great scenery and music. On the one hand the plot is fairly linear, but then most great novels are, as well.
Buy this game, including the expansion Heart of Winter and then download Trials of the Luremaster. |
Hello,
well, I suppose that it's like this: IWD2 should be a much better game, but, it's not out yet (really soon) and would cost full price. IWD + HOW/TOL you can get at a discount, with full game support from places like this. If you like the genre, then why not play IWD, enjoy it, and then get IWD2? You'd get IWD2 when it's not quite new, so, don't wait if you want the better features, but wait and get IWD if you just like playing these games (how much free time do you have?). If you really want to get technical, then Baldur's Gate 2 is certainly considered by the majority as being the best of this game group, so, you could play that until IWD2 is available (beware, its a really big, really good game). The remake of Pool of Radiance got bad reviews, so you can get last year's collector box set for $20 in some stores - although you might like the game. - Twilight |
If your into fantasy stuff such as lord of the rings then you'll enjoy it even more than most people. As you dont seem to know that much about the game you should also know that its a computerised version of Dungeons and Dragons, with the luck of the dice being evened out and averaged by your computer

i think the game is really good, as soon as i played the demo i bought the game

here's something different, i don't like this game, I think it's the worst game blackisle has produced. the characters are too skinny, the potraits are lousy, it's like someone use a wooden colour to paint the game. I really hate the " aye aye commander or ...yeah...okay I'll do it " .can't they say something like " rubber boots in motion, or high speed low drag "
the tactics in the game is lousy, it's like your characters are marching on a field. when you click a monster to attack, all of them will swarm the monster. really annoying during the end where you have to fight few greater mummies at one time. Also, the conversation is pretty much limited. the music is lousy too. that's why I didn't buy the expansion pack. I hope IWD 2 is somewhat better than this. |
Uhh - OK Nice to hear the flipside, too! I do have BG2 (unfortunately what I don't have is tons of time to pick away at all of it, cool as it is) but I'd heard that IWD is more of a straight-up dungeon hack whereas BG is less so. I'd also heard the score and scenery were great in IWD. Linearity is ok by me. Cool - thanks for the advice!

I think you got it all wrong, BG and BG2 are !THE BEST! I'd shove Icewind Dale and keep at BG and BG2!!! Then get BG2 Throne of Bhaal, it's great! :D

hey are you gonna be able to export/import your characters from IwD into the second?
|
No, you will not be able to import your IWD characters in IWD II. The new game is based upon the 3rd edition D&D rule set and is set approximately 30 yrs after the story in IWD. It is also designed for characters to begin at first level.
