New to Icewind Dale, but I have played Shadows of Amn/Throne of Bhall all the way through.

Any advice?

Also, anyone know of any editting software, like Shadowkeeper?

If you have Heart of Winter, make at least one druid or fighter/druid and have one character be a bard. Also, make one cleric single-classed, as there are undead here and there. IWD is combat-heavy, so load up on fighters. Anyone who can use a ranged weapon should use a ranged weapon. Good luck! Always have a multi cleric/mage and give them the elven chain when you get it. It really help to have a character that versatile. Never pass up a chane at conversation - most times it a dead end but on a few occasions you can get a small quest or some XP. Not as often as in BG though.

About the Shadowkeeper - there is a program called Dalekeeper by the same person. Same deal, different game. Google should show it up quickly enough.

My favourite party

Paladin
Cleric
Ranger
Fighter lvl 7 dual to mage
thief lvl 7 dual to mage
bard

You'll have some trouble right at the time you dual, but once they reach lvl 8 the party 'rules supreme'

Thanks all.

Ar-Cunin, my current level 1 line up is similar what you suggested, only I have a mage in place of a bard.

Hi everyone!
One quick question: Why a bard? I tried one & she was nearly useless, except for her bow.
I'm at the towers & mowing down elves by the tribe. Not too happy 'bout hackin' elves, but needs must!
Have a good week!

Bards have decent magic capabilities; but their real benefit lies in the songs. THe War Chant of Stith allows the party to regenerate lost hit points fairly rapidly, freeing up clerical spell slots for something OTHER than healing.

With HoW, bards get some neat songs, including one that regenerates HPs for all party members. Another one casts Resist Fear as it is played.
Bards make good secondary mages.
They have the highest lore and you don't have to rely on Identify spells/scrolls or merchants.

The War Chant of Sith also gives a 10% resistance to slashing attacks; a lesser-known benefit of that song. There is another song that gives resistance to sonic attacks that comes in quite handy on Burial Isle.... Bards and druids really shine in HoW.

Thanks everyone! If/when I do another party, I'll try a bard. Is Burial Isle in HoW?
Have a good weekend!
