I met this barbarian shaman in Kuldahar who told me to go with him.
This will lead to the expansion areas IIRC.
My question is at what level do I have to be to go and find it challenging?Not impossible or super-easy.
Also will I get to return to Kuldahar whenever I want or is HoW like ToB in which once you travel to the expansion Areas you don't get to return to the original areas?

You can go back if you leave - but you will automaticly be transported to Lonelywood (where HoW starts) when you finish IWD

HOW requires 9th level characters or higher or Hjollder will tell you to come back when you are more experienced. Trials of the Luremaster requires 11th level or higher.

When you finish HOW you are automatically returned to Kuldahar and likewise, when you finish TOL you are returned to where you started TOL. Once you have left HOW you can not return to HOW. Same holds true for TOL.

I usually do everything in IWD except for the last bits where you get transported to Easthaven before I start HOW. In HOW, I do everything up to the point where you go to the Sea of Moving Ice before I start TOL. That allows you to do everything in each expansion completely before returning to the previous area.
