Hallo.Can anybody sent me 1-2 gamesaves of Icewind dale?I am at Wyrm's Tooth
(AR 7000) -chapter 5 -ready to go right to the lower right passage which
leads to Lower
Dorn's Deep(x 1100 y 625)and chapter 6.The game saves normally but when it
tries to load the new area crashes and gets back to Windows.I believe the
problem is
loading the next area so if i had 2-3 saves after this point it would be
OK (i want to finish this great game even with the new characters).
Please help.

Do you have IWD only installed, or IWD/HOW or IWD/HOW/TOL installed? THe saved games aren't backward compatible and I have all three (IWD/HOW/TOL) installed.

Have you tried installing the latest patch? For IWD only use the v1.06 patch. If you have HOW installed then use the v1.41 patch UNLESS you have ToL installed as well and then do NOT add any patches.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? Area files can often get corrupted during installation. Also, make sure that you loaded any patches in the proper order. Installing the IWD 1.06 patch after HOW is installed will cause problems like you are having.

I have installed only the IWD,i've allready installed the 1.06 patch and yes i uninstalled and installed the game again.(Of course i used the game saves from previous installation).

Are you playing the US version of the game? If so, I'll send you the Area file that is causing the trouble - you can try replacing it and seeing if that will help. I'll also check my saved game files and see if I have one that is from IWD only for chapter six. Its a long shot but I might have one.

I can't remember if the cheat codes are enabled in IWD or if only after HOW is installed are they restored. If the cheat codes are present, you could try using the "MoveToArea" command with the proper Area # to "jump" to LDD.

Are you crashing when you try to enter LDD or when you go to the intermediate map area between Wyrm's Tooth and LDD?

I think it's the Europe version(Distrib by Virgin Interactive Europe).The crash comes when i am at the intermediate small map and try to go in to the lower right cave.The pop-up message says:"An Assertion failed in infinity.ccp at line 1763.Programmer says:Demand for WED file failed."
What is the exact syntax of MoveToArea command?
The Area file(8001 i think) or any save game would be welocome!

Okay Nick, I'll fire off the Ar8001.bcf file. Its about 6 megs large. Be warned that its for the US version ..... i don't know if that matters on these files. But back up your original just in case.

I just noticed the details of that error message! That message has been occuring with a great deal of regularity, with exactly the same wording! Its been solved in the past by doing a complete reinstallation using a FULL install and redownloading the patch and reinstalling THAT as well. Make sure that you have the proper patch for your version of the game! Why the reinstall didn't work for you is beyond me but it MAY be traceable to the patch.

PS: I mailed the area file just a few minutes ago.

If you get another saved game file, you can keep your old characters just by importing them into the new game.
