I was just wondering if it is possible to import a character from BG1 to IwD?

Nope, you can't import anything in IWD...

More precisely, the only characters you can import into IWD are IWD characters that you've exported at some point. it's unfortunate that you can't have your BG guys imported...i think that would definitely rule

Actually, what would rock would be the opposite. I've got a thief in IWD that I would LOVE to import to BGII (WITH portrait) ;)

The only thing that would come close is to use one of the TeamBG Character Editors to build a character for BG with all the stats and skills that your IWD character has (or vice versa)and use that. A lot (but not all) of the items exist in both games so you could even duplicate those (with some restrictions of course). The only things you would be able to do would be recreate special abilities unique to certain classes with a specific game or unique items.
