Hello men and women of the Forgotten Realms. My question is this: I am playing Icewindale, WITHOUT the H.O.W. intsalled. I can't duel calss my characters. I dont understand why I can't. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I can only think of four things that might be causing the problem:
(1) You are trying to dual class a character class that cannot dual (for instance: a paladin or a bard) (2) You are trying to dual class a non-human character (non-humans must multi-class at character creation time ... only humans can start in one class and switch to another (eg: a fighter dualing to a thief) (3) Your characters have already capped out (4) Your characters do not have sufficient stats in a prime ability required by the class you are dualing to. (eg: a fighter dualing to mage requires a minimum intelligence score to dual class) That's all I can think of .... some specifics about the characters you are trying to dual would help. |
In some rare cases, you have an alignment requirement too. this has been mostly a problem for people who wanted to dual a fighter to a druid. You have to be true neutral for this dual class to work aswell.

I am currently playing version 1.06 of Icewind Dale. The problem I am having is that I am unable to duel-class my 6th Level Human Ranger. My Ranger's stats are STR 18/96, DEX 16, CON 16, INT 18, WIS 15, CHR 8. The duel-class button is lit up, and I can access the next screen. But when I get to the Class screen none of the character classes are accessable (i.e. they are all greyed out). Why can I not duel-class this character? Is this a bug in the program?

I thought I read somewhere you can't dual class a ranger.

A ranger can dual class but only to a cleric and seeing as how his/her ranger has only 15 wisdom, that's the problem. If that ranger would have 17 wisdom, he could be dual classed. I'm actually curious as to how he got such high stats ? And welcome Huxley Irondrake [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: JR Jansen ]</p> |

They're on the high side, but I've noticed that IWD tends to roll high, especially on Rangers and Paladins. A score total of 91 (which is what he has) is high, but I naturally rolled a 94 on a character (Paladin) one time, so it's not unheard of. |
yeah, IWD definitely rolls higher on classes with higher ability score standards...maybe a little biased towards these "specialized" classes, but hey, i can't say i'm complaining about it
