I finished IWD many months ago with 5 characters: a paladin, fighter, cleric, thief, and mage.

Now that I have HoW and ToLM, would it be good to add a new character to my party?

There is sobbing of the strong,
And a pall upon the land;
But the People in their weeping
Bare the iron hand:
Beware the People weeping
When they bare the iron hand.

You might add a druid or multi-classed fighter/druid.

Its a matter of personal preference I think. You've managed to get through IWD with only five people, so you may wish to keep with that winning formula. If not, then consider a (multi-)druid, or perhaps another mage. You'll split the xp though, so its up to you.

Go for a second mage of sorts, I would say fighter/mage. The amount of XP in HoW will make it fairly easy to advance the multi-classes quickly and you'll get the bonus of an extra spell caster who can also hold his/her own in a fight.

If you've never tried a druid then now may be a good time, but if you feel that a bard or (multi-)class mage is more your style, then go ahead. Really, its a matter of taste, though I'd probably go for either of the two (mage I think).

You don't have to though, as you could carry on with five members and divide the xp without the hassle of another character. (Not everybody makes it to level 30 without some extremely hard work - its something to consider.)

BTW Would you tell us what levels your original party are at right now (he asks bearing in mind the level 14 xp cap). With HoW, you could quickly get a bard to level 11, then dual to a mage. Though, be careful with this, as the stat requirements can be a trifle harsh.http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Nice. Definitely a mage then. All of those love-erlee high-level spells? Yum! Think about another mage if you can't stomach the bard; just be aware of how useful there songs can be. (I found out through the forumhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif.) Once you get to level 11, there isn't much more for them to do as bards. Not in IWD anyway.

kinda of reluctant to use a bard, but maybe now's the time

Once you get the 'War Chant', you'll factor in playing with a bard all of the time. It doesn't unbalance the game (IMO) rather, it allows you to carry on without having to worry about healing spells/potions, or lack thereof, slowing you down. Try it - what's the worst thing that could happen?http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

It depends on your cariters level. Stick with the five for a while longer than add the six later.I curtly have a party of five. it works real good.I have no need for a six as right know.
