This what I've done:

Got Badge from Ice Giant (two badges so far)
Got the slaves in that cave free
Killed Kerish and Got those Slaves + Vera free.
Killed Auril Priest and his Knights.

When I exit in the NE I can't get into a cave.
The game auto saves but then crashes half way loading. It exits itself and saids there is an assertion error and can't find a WED file.

yeah, if the typical override folder stuff doesn't help.. and since it is saying it cannot find a file... there's a posibility it got corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.. or a minor possibility there is a program conflict; possibly with a hack of some sort? anyways, listen to Elif and reinstall

I have experienced exactly the same problem. I've re-installed both full and standard installs, exported characters, moved override folders and nothing has worked. I can return to Kuldahar and do the Heart of Winter expansion but it looks like I may have to forget completing Icewind Dale unless someone has a solution to this.

Same here! Sooo Annoying! Never really liked IWD but now this is terrible!

oh yeah, i just noticed something. You 'Blokes' are all from Europe. Didn't they have a bug in the UK release of IWD? some kind of flaw in the CD, but i believe there is a patch available for it. I'll bet that's your problem!
