Ok, so I'm a bit confused here. I have a couple of characters who have
acquired spell abilities that don't seem to do anything.

For instance:
Female, half-elf, lawful good, cleric/ranger - She recently learned
the spell for Static Charge. However, every time I've tried to use
it, nothing happens. I click on it and it goes right back to a
regular pointer, not a spell pointer.

and

Female, elf, neutral good, Mage, no specialty - in her case it's the Minor
Globe of Invulnerability. She was able to write it to her mage book, why can't
she use it?

I don't know about the cleric-ranger but if a mage writes a spell the work is only half done. A mage must memorize it. Open your mage book and go to the appropriate spell level. If your mage has empty spell slots in the left side of the screen, click on the spell you want her to memorize on the right side. It should now appear in one of the empty spell slots on the left. After this you have to rest before she can use the spell. Hope this made sence. And if you can't see any empty spell slots that means that your mage isn't at a high enough level to cast the spell.

I've had similar problems with static charge. in my case, i can memorize and try to cast, but nothing happens (spell fizzles). it may have something to do with armor or proximity or creatures? but most likely it's a bug, make sure you got the latest patches and see if that fixes the problem.

I had a similar problem with Static Charge. I would cast it and it never seemed to work. I found out that you could not target who would be hit be the spell and that if there were no enemies in the vacinity, the energy release by the spell would dissipate but that the spell would continue to go off every round until the spell's duration is reached.

my thief gets something called "CRITICAL STRIKE" or something like that, but i cant use it. ive checked my armor, ive tried everything, it just wont work, wtf?

Sorry, I should have been more specific: I am memorizing the spell. I actually started playing IWD about a year ago or so and got up to The Severed Hand and stopped for a while. I'm getting back into it now (don't know why
I stopped. It's a FUN game) and have HOW and the new Trials pack.

So I'm definitely memorizing these spells... I just can't use them....

Ok, let's see if i can come up with something else. Is your mages level high enough to cast spells from that level ? And is said mage wearing any armor (i know, kinda dumb point but .....) ?
