I went to Interplay's official website and they emphatically stated that if you have HoW installed to NOT patch IWD. My question is if I first install IWD and patch it and THEN install HoW will the games run alright? Thanks.

Yes that will be fine, I installed IWD, then v1.05 then v1.06 then HOW then HOW v1.41 then Luremaster, and I run fine.

I don't think you have to bother with the v1.05 or v1.06 as HOW encompsses these.
