has anyone had problems dualing from a 9th lvl fighter to anything else in IWD?Seems like a really hard point in the game to be starting a lvl 1 mage (albiet, he prob has 100hp). I am about to dual one ftr to a thief and a seperate one to a mage (prob conjurer) when they both hit lvl 9. currnetly at lvl7 just starting Severed Hand. Wonder how dualing two at the same time will go?

Well, it is not something I would like to try Tequila! Not in IWD, anyway. It was ok in BGII, but in some ways IWD is tougher. If you really want characters with more than one class, MULTI is the way to go, imho. Besides, at lvl 7 you are more than halfway through the game, and it will be very tough for your fledgelings! Yes, they pick up levels quickly to start with, but slows down after lvl 5 and they will constantly be playing 'catch-up'.
But see what other people think! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif

what about exporting, then importing back in and starting over? I see posts where people are going solo. there is no way you start out at lvl 1 and go solo, so they must be importing.

You sure can start at level 1 and play with a solo character to defeat IWD! But to give yourself a break, try a cleric or multiclass there of.
As for dual classing. There is a certain aspect of catch up. Especially in a 6 character party. It's much more doable in 4 players or less. (example: i onc had a 4 player party with a thief who made it to level 8 byt the time we reached dragon's eye. she dualclassed and didn't reach level 9 as a fighter until the beginning of Dorn's deep. how much xp is that?)Although it is ideal to dualclass as a fighter first then something else (for hitdice reasons), you'll lose that precious advantage of hacking for some time. Of course, if you play thru IWD and HOW, you'd probably get that second level up past the first. You can always try resting a fighting a lot if you need the xp. Or (if you really want to be wierd) try turning everyone to stone except two guys (one to guard the statues, and one to kill badguys). as long as you have some stone to flesh scrolls, you should be ok. but don't leave the statues or you might lose your guys for good!

Um, yes, they DO start at lvl 1! Not saying some don't import, but the whole point of soloing, really, is to build one character from nothing and still beat the game!
Leafy is right about using a Cleric. Whether you Dual or Multi, a solo NEEDS to be a healer, lol! Best is probably Fighter/Cleric/Thief, but you can't have that! So go for Fighter/Mage/Cleric. The Cleric spell 'find traps' and Mage spell 'knock' (to open locks) will be needed.
Using just one character, you will go up in levels quickly, even as a 3-class character!
