Greetings, fellow adventurers--and hail, mighty Ziroc.
I have completed the Icewind Dale quest, and I'm now embarking on to
Lonelywood to stir up troub . . . eh, pardon me, to go on further
adventures in the North.(translation--I've completed IWD, and now I've
imported my characters into the Heart of Winter expansion). Tell me,
fellow barbarians--do I still need these wretched badges, or can I just
toss them at the door of the nearest tavern? (translation--do I still need
any of the quest items from IWD when playing Heart of Winter only?)
A bucket of mead to the first brave soul to stand with an answer . . .
And 2 kegs of Faerun's finest ale to the fine traveler who can tell me
where a battle-weary, old dwarf can find himself a tome or two, for I'm not
gettin' any younger, you see (translation--are there any tomes in Heart of
Winter to increase one's attributes).
Thanks, all . . .

If you are planing to play ONLY HOW, then those badges will mean nothing to you during the expansion.

Long live H22A1!!!!!

no, you don't need the badges... but if you have a saved game from IWD with all the badges, then you install HOW; you might get all the exp for those badges again! (happened to my character who had all the badges, very plesant suprise).. otherwise, toss 'em

as for quest items, i believe they are all new... except, i bet you'd do well to hold on to the "restored blade of Aiohen" if you ever got that one..
i also made sure to bring the axe of caged souls to use against undead

In easthaven, complete the quest with Jonen and the Sea Spirit. give the blade back (be honest now). when you return to easthaven at the end of the game, talk to Jonen (now in the slave pen) and he will give you the restored blade of Aihoen.. the very same blade that was used to kill the Dragon Queen...
i haven't gotten to the end of HoW, but i'm saving that blade for her demise

Blessed friends, much gratitude and thanks--I do believe I owe you
both a bucket or two. Do drink slow--for the denizens of Lonelywood
have quick hands for one's gold pouch. And, more information on
the tomes would do these old bones good.

Ah, that blade--yes, my fallen knight of a friend kept that from our
adventures in the Dale, and of course, the axe of caged souls is upon
my shoulder, just itchin' for an excuse--you know, you know, dear
friends.

Now, away with you, whilst I finish this dark brew--ah . . .

The name is Gaelin, dear sirs, but to my foes, Stormhammer will
suffice. I pride myself by my weapon and my honour--though if one
should slip, the other fails me not. I am known here and there, but
usually, I keep to myself, for there are certain arenas that welcome
Gaelin Stormhammer no more. This, I do not question, for I have
done questionable things--but this is a ludicrous world, this Faerun,
is it not sons and daughters of the game?
Do pass on information on any tomes that may restore me to my
youthful grace, old friends, when my frost beard was red and full,
and my body strong as Murtagan's black ox. Those were the days . . .
ah
