... and can I safely remove it?

I know it showed up when I installed BG, but I don't know what it's for. I'd like it off of my computer, if it won't harm my BG2 games.

TIA

I don't know what it is, but I have BG/BG2 installed and it's not on my computer. You can safely remove it.

gamespy its a multipayer tool to allow you to meet other players BG online. Ive used it ages ago, but its not needed in playing bg ;)

Unless, you know, you want to play multiplayer :D

You don't need Gamespy Arcade to play multiplayer.

And now I'm lost...

Yes, you don't need it but for newbies it is a good way to bring up nuetral MP environments open to the web. The other method is hosting it or connecting to a host. Private MP games. Much fun but bear in mind the game was never real designed for MP and you have to put up with some annoying things like dialogue pausing. The community may have patched stuff in for MP to avoid these things.

That said, I don't think they have a BG room in Gamespy anymore...I know the IWD ones were closed years ago.

Actually there are still BG2 rooms in Gamespy, well, as of two days ago there were. :D

It essentially just provides an easy avenue for gamers to find people looking to multiplayer with anyone - even strangers - for any number of games.

Of course, you don't need Gamespy to play multiplayer... you can just as easily use the in game connection possibilities to play with friends.
