I'm playing through the game for the first time as a neutral sorcerer. I'm pretty far into it now but still haven't found a neutral Archmagi Robe. Does anyone know if even there is one in the game? If so where? I feel like I've had this Adventurers Robe for an eternity...

Thanks.

Mhhhhh....
I remember that you could get the robe of the Goody archmagi from the smith in Trademeet.
Have you checked on him?

I canīt say for sure, but i think he might [edit]ALSO[/edit] have what you are looking for.

I'll have to guess that you're in ToB right now, not in SoA as GoblinZ suggested. Try the merchant with all the spells (Lazarus) that can be found in both Saradush and Amkethran. He should have it.

Actually I just did Watcher's Keep and am about to go to Suldanessalar and finish up the main Irenicus plot. I checked the guy in Trademeet, he doesn't have it, just the good version. When I get into ToB I'll try that merchant you suggested Lord.

Ha! Iīm quite an mind reader, ainīt i?!

Anyway, i checked up on game banshees BG II item listings ( http://www.gamebanshee.com/baldursga...alkthrough.php ), and they havenīt got it marked for SoA

I think itīs the best walkthrough available, itīs not only a walk through, but containst information on more and less important item locations and all kinds of cool stuff that can be useful even after an two-digit labeled run through the game.

However, maybe you could try this:

Quote:

Robe of Vecna (WA2ROBE)
Location(s)
Waukeen's Promenade (Adventurer's Mart) - Purchased from Deidre (Note: Deidre is available in the Collector's Edition only)
I once happened to buy that particular robe, and i donīt happen to have any weird collectors editions piled in my hoarde of compact discs.
I think the merchant also comes with either a) an patch or b) an (unofficial) baldurdash fixpack.
But itīs getting late here, and a little headache is getting in my way, so i canīt say for sure.

The only ways a Neutral pure-classed Wizard can get something worth wearing:

1) If you have the Bonus Merchants (which comes with ToB) installed, Deidre has the Robe of Vecna.
2) If you're in ToB and currently have access to either Saradush or Amkethran, you can buy a Robe of the Neutral Archmagi.
3) If you have Tactics, or at least the Ritual component, installed, you can loot a Robe of the Neutral Archmagi.
4) If you have Virtue installed, you can change your alignment to either Good or Evil, and thus wear a Robe of the Good/Evil Archmagi, which are much, much more obtainable.
5) If you have Item Upgrades installed and an Archmagi Robe, you can get it souped up into an Enchanced Robe of the Archmagi. Alignment rules still apply.

Robe of Vecna is pretty much the only robe in the game worth wearing

I mean, the Archmagi robes can't really compare to the bonus to casting speed that the Robe of Vecna gives you (as for armor class, that's what spells like Spirit Armor are for )

DMT 07-19-2005 09:02 PM

Well I'll be in Saradush soon enough so I'll get it then. Not a fan of the vecna robe, the lowering of casting speed unbalances things a bit too much for my liking.

Neo the Warrior Cat 07-20-2005 01:35 AM

Not really, since it's only a few ticks off of the higher level spells. (Just means that your time stop comes before theirs ) And you still have to wait a round inbetween spells (until Improved Alaclarity)

Unbalancing would be the very same robe also giving 2 extra spell slots per level (remind you of a certain NPC? ;) )

Agreed. It even gives you the magic resistance that you'd have if you wore the robe of the (good/neutral/evil) archmagi. I usually give the robe of vecna to a spell caster, and if I've got another mage in the group, I give them elven mail since it doesn't hinder their spellcasting abilities.
