I've always thought that a multiclassed party (or at least mostly multiclassed) would be the most fun in SoA/ToB, especially considering that multiclassed characters tend to be more powerful in ToB (I base this on the idea that high level characters reach a certain point of diminishing returns, and it takes a lot longer for multiclassed characters to reach this point).
I'm thinking I'll go with a good/neutral aligned party, and take Aerie, Jaheira, and Jan with me. I don't know what I should make my protagonist, and I'm really considering bringing along Minsc as well (with the new banter pack, I'll regret going through the game with Jan and without Minsc). So, I'll have: Jaheira (F/D) Aerie (C/M) Jan (T/M) Minsc (Ranger) and a multiclassed protagonist. Hmmm, here in lies my dilema. I really don't need more than one thief, so that's out. I have a druid, and a cleric, and two mages, so I really don't need any of those classes either. Any suggestions? Also, if I want to make the party a full one (6 person), who should I add? I'd think Imoen, for storyline purposes, but 3 mages is a lot for any party. TIA. [ 03-08-2005, 12:46 AM: Message edited by: krunchyfrogg ] |
Take Solaufein. He is a multi F/M. He has good banter and very intriguing quests.
What do you want to be? |
krunchy, you have a small typo. Jan is a T/M, not a F/M.
"I'm going to enjoy watching you die, Mr. Jansen." "My name....is Plooty Paladin-Piper!" The (or at least a) cardinal rule with any party is to never have the Tanks outnumbered by the non-Tanks. The presence of Jan and Aerie, and the fact that Jaheira doesn't have a lot of hitpoints, mean that you've essentially got to be a Warrior yourself, even with Solaufein, who I also think would be the natural choice for the 6th slot if you're willing to take your game to that level. For the PC, I would choose a Halfling Fighter/Thief. I know you say Jan is more than enough (and he is), but the benefits of having a frontline Thief and a mage-type Thief are quite nice: You can march up to a Mage and Detect Illusion him while in your Full Plate, you can pull off a hellacious Backstab without needing to depend on Jan's THAC0, you can use UAI cheese, the fact that Thieves level up so fast mean more Warrior HLAs, you can concentrate on Traps more quickly than a single Thief could, plus the fact that you've got Halfling Thieving bonuses and a Halfling Fighter's Saving Throws. |
Thanks for the help guys. I've fixed the typo.
I'm really not into Soulafein, because I'm not into mods. I'm considering a Cleric/Ranger protagonist, but I'll be really priest-heavy if I do that. I'm also thinking I should probably go with a 5 person party. Although it won't matter too much, the one less member will allow my other characters to advance faster. Besides, then I'll be able to take Sarevok in ToB, and dual class him! ;) |

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/cg...c&f=2&t=024924 my advice is to try to cut the party down to 5 characters, at most. multiclassers are better, imho, but you still want to advance a bit faster. otoh, my advice is to always try to slim down your party to 4 or 5 members. |
