Hi,
i'm almost finished in BG 1 with a thief, and i plan to play an assassin dualed to fighter in bg II as soon as i get the x7, with this party : ME (assassin->fighter) viconia edwin korgan cernd a great fighter killed in BG1 well, my questions are : should i use one hand weapon, or dual wield ??? If one handed, long swords or dagger or short swords (angurvadal, dagger of the stars, another one) ???, What is the best armor for an assassin-fighter ? What equipment should i really use except the obvious boots of speed ? thanks for your advices... |
Dual wield, 2* two weapon style, 5* dagger 5*long/swordshord - doesn't really matter which, there are good weapons available for all three selections.
Good armour includes Shadowmaster Armour +3 and the armour you recieve when you complete the Umar Hills quests... (the shadow dragon armour is pretty good as well ). If you wait until L26 to dual, you can have use any item and assassination as HLA's, making equipment choice academic |
you're almost forced to do both - it's not worth dual-wielding as an assasin so put a * in single-weapon style (for the increased chance of a critical hit)
then dual-wield as a fighter and when the assassin re-activates take your pick |
Ok, thanks,
but that leads to another question : what lvl is the best to dual : should i wait till x7 backstab (i'm afraid to re-activate my assassin too late in the game) or should i dual already at x5 ??? What are the pros and cons of waiting till x7... ? thanks for your advices |
my assassin is now level 22 in chapter 3 but he's playing solo and you've got a party of 5 - it will take you a looong time to get to level 21 (i think) assassin for x7 backstab let alone level 22 fighter afterwards to re-active the assassin
(also i've got tactics mod and 'toughest monster spawns' installed so i get even more XP) on the other hand you can carry your guy with the NPCs if you don't mind him being weak for a while and not having a thief if it was me (in a party of 5) i think i'd probably dual at the level at which your traps (snares) stop doing poison damage and start doing fire damage - the poison is much more useful (i think that's level 14 or 15) on the other hand you only get 15 thief skill points per level and my level 22 assassin is still poor at lock picking and is using items to help his stealth and trap setting so anything less will be limiting in thief terms one last thing ;) is that my assassin seems pretty powerful at high levels even without dualling and you've got korgan for a tank and cernd as a possible melee character so you could just stay assassin unless you have somthing specific in mind that needs the fighter dual . . . some thoughts anyway (you caught me at the right time as i'm close to dualling my solo assassin to cleric!) |
L25 is my pick for dualling the Assassin.
Use any item is a gift. |
OK
(i suppose Assasssin dual to fighter is a solo character ?) maybe i should try then to go assassin all the way. But my thaco will always be low... CU |
If I were ever going to do a solo single class assassin it would be as an Elf, simply to get the bonus +1 Dexterity

As funny as it may look, overall Halflings make better thieves (and therefore assassins) than any other race.

Not true, STR is important for a decent backstabber
