I was wondering...

How much gold did you people have in stash the moment you finished the game? think we could get a refund from Black Isle?

Probably in the hundred thousands, although I don't really check towards the end once I've spent most of the money that I need on Cespenar's upgrade.

I know I had once really a LOT of money. 400+ K

Highest I ever achieved was 1.2 million plus. Lots of stealing/pickpocketing/selling involved.

I'm not quite finished yet, but I still have in excess of 40,000....

Cespenar's upgrades are a fantastic way of getting rid of the money bags, but at this point in the game after SoA, money really hasn't been an issue for me with the rampant amount of magic items around.

If one uses a bag of holding to materialistically and methodically pick up and store every magic item, then I'm sure you could reach the ridiculous fortunes that Dundee mentioned. :D

If you're going the solo route, I know my Fighter/Thief, which basically never bought anything, just used loot, had over 600k. Parties will obviously have lower fortunes. Solo sorcerers (with bags of holding) also end up with ridiculous fortunes. Which brings up an interesting question: which (single) item sells for the most in BG2?

Dundee Slaytern 05-09-2004 03:27 PM

The Wand of Wonders. 15000gp.

For the record, I achieved the million with a party, led by a Blade, and yes, I did spend on upgrades. Otherwise, the figure would have been higher.

I had to play with the market forces though. Merchants will pay more for items that they do not have. Usually, the difference is inconsequential, but when it comes to pricey items like Full Plate Mail, the difference can be in the thousands.

Cue hoarding of items until I have them in stacks of 16, then comes the massive selling.

The next factor was the black market factor. Where you sell an item a second time round after stealing it. I did not use cheese though, I only sold stolen items once. Never more than twice.

I did it in an exercise to see what was the highest possible amount I could achieve without breaking roleplay.

im keeping all expensive gems (star sapphires, diamonds, kings tears etc. ) until the end of the game and then see how much i collected. But then again, some of these are needed for upgrades right? maybe i should use the old pencil and paper to write down how much i already spent.

How much you'll end up with has a lot to do with your reputation (and therefore with your alignment and party). You're much more likely to end up as "Bhaalspawn moneybags" if you're good than if you're evil.

Yes and no. You can be Chaotic Evil but have waaaaaaaaaaaay more gold then Lawful Good character. (If you use the steal and sell cheese)
