What spells are essential to the survival of a Sorcerer. I'm new to playing one, and I don't want to screw myself.

Find Dundee's sig, follow it. You don't have to follow it exactly, but have a good reason for any changes you make.

I've somewhat followed the solo one throughout a game and it worked out really well.

there've been quite a few old threads about this subject you can look at on the SoA board. IIRC, there's one not long ago (just a month old maybe). Many people had their Sorcerer spell lists there.

I myself never solo and find Dundee's party spell list a good one. I've never followed that list exactly, but it does list some of the most important spells. I suggest (actually an old advice) that you play the game with a mage PC (or heavily rely on mage NPCs) at least once before you try a sorcerer PC. That way, you'll know which spells you use the most (probably really necessary), and which spells you like to use the most (personal preference), and so you can form a sorcerer spellbook that suits your style the best. Also, which NPCs you will put together with your sorcerer is another factor. Like me, lately I've become more and more magic oriented than before, and so my party always has at least 2 wizards (quite frequently three , for example, my current game I have PC sorcerer, Imone, and Aerie). In multiple mages party, I can do the "wizard spell management" thing more creatively. My sorcerer might be more offensive oriented and the two mages take on the more defensive and assitant offensive role. anyway, it's fun playing multiple wizard party :D

ADD: ok, here is that thread I mentioned,

http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...c;f=2;t=023508

I'd suggest you read it only if you've finished SoA/ToB at least once and knows most of the spells in the game. otherwise, big spoilers all over the place.
