I have had him for 10 days and am not ready to go to the gnoll stronghold yet.

Nope, that is a time limited quest. He now considers you his enemy and there is no changing his mind about that, at least not permanently.

What are you talking about ? I took a party of first levels into the gnoll strong hold and kicked butt (and reloaded a lot). What are you waiting for ? Go rescue that poor woman !
