I know a Kensai->Thief (dualed at 13) w/ grand mastery in katanas is better thorugh SOA, but i have heard that an elven Fighter/Thief may be better in the long run in TOB. Is this true?

Thanks

once you get use any item i would think your kensai/thief would be incredibly powerful

Play as a Kensai until L24, then dual to a mage (trust me on this one):

Kensai bonuses: +8 hit/damage, kai until you are sick of it, 4 fighter HLAs.

Thief bonuses: Who cares. You can level up until you get to a higher level than 24 then choose use any item. Mmm. At this point your character will do SILLY damage and have ridiculous bonuses.

/me dribbles at the thought of backstabbing with a Katana with crom in the offhand...

Without the XP-cap installed, I'd suggest lvl 13 for the kensai though ..

Kensai->Thief, Level 24: 4 Fighter HLAs, 5 Thief HLAs.
Multiclassed Fighter/Thief: 23 HLAs, from either pool.

True, the Kensai->Thief will have more hitpoints and better THAC0, but the Fighter/Thief can wear armor and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 23 is more than 9.

Who cares what your THAC0 is when you've got 5 attacks per round, Dual-wielding with Assassination during your Time Trap?

Then factor in Greater Whirlwind, for lots of attacks, and Critical Strike (twice as much damage AGAIN as what assasination gives :D )..
And ofcourse the Timetrap means that noone much will deal damage to *YOU*... am I crazy, or does this game seem to be designed for the F/T ?? :D

the whole point of dualling a kensai to a thief is to get use any item allowing him to wear armor. well and kai backstabs

Yes, its a very sexy combination.

The other winner is obviously the Kensai/Mage dual. It's quite fun to 'tank up' by using the tensers transformation spell and have a 350hp killing machine wondering around.

Assassination, Whirlwind and Critical Strike all only last for 1 round, and you can only choose one ability per round (unless you abuse Improved Alacrity).

Critical Strike multiplies the damage by 2, unless the victim is wearing a Helmet or otherwise immune to Critical Hits.
Assassination multiplies the damage by 5, unless the victim is immune to Backstab.
Bear in mind that all attacks made during a Time Stop are guaranteed hits anyway.
doesn't seem like a tough call to me....

When Dual-wielding, Improved Haste is pretty much exactly the same as Greater Whirlwind, and lasts longer.

Angelousss, a Kensai->Thief is indeed nice, but a Multiclass can wear armor a whole lot sooner. A question, though: I've heard that even with Use Any Item, Kensai still cannot wear Bracers/Gloves/Gauntlets. Is this true?

False.
