Has anyone found a use for "Detect Evil"?

Has anyone found a use for other items generally though to be useless? (not the Pantaloons!)

Detect evil isn't useless.

It let's you know who has evil intentions....

eg. - a man tells you to kill a woman.

the woman tells you to kill the man. Who do you pick??:S

Cast detect evil. Man = good/woman = evil.

Give's a slight indication to help!!

KILL THE WOMAN!!

This was only a example. hehe

But if you are playing an evil character, just kill them both.

Uh hum. Yes. ;)

But even so, you could still cast the spell before you killed them both couldn't you rangerous, couldnt you. ;) ;) couldn't you?

The main use is to give you an idea of the number of monsters in an area as well as the type. This isn't a game bug as in PnP you would also get the direction and distance to the evil auras.

I never use the "detect evil" spell, i always thought it useless... in cases like the male/female thing, i kill them both, cause they are usually jelous mages, and you can usually get some good gear off of both. so remember if evil, kill'em both!

P.S someone told me that the Detect evil spell was useless if you were evil, and it just detected you... anyone know the truth behind that?

As mentioned it tells you what evil creatures lurk in the area. So it can come into play if you are roleplaying your character. For example, your preparation for major battles becomes much more believable given that you know what types of enemy are nearby, and you would then scout first. Another good roleplsying use for this spell is when playing a paladin. The paladin has sworn an oath to go around smiting evil, etc.

i find that detect evil is useful to know whether to cast protection from evil or not....

cast it and then know... if the attackers are evil then casting protection from eveil will help...

i never use the spell with my mage... not worth it... but ajantis has a feree supply..

Sure, Lavindathar. You could cast the spell, kill one of them, go and have a drink at a local tavern, slip into your golden pantaloons, cast the spell again and kill the remaining one :)

Why there isn't a spell 'detect good' or 'detect tavern', the later could be handy at times also in real life... :)
