Heya, this is my first post to this funky site but don't let that detract from my info. There a several stages to battling Amelysan and the key is to control the flow between bouts. After each time you defeat her and she retreats back to her (your!?) throne, hang back a minute and make sure your party is fully healed, protected and positioned before you take on the guardians that appear. Do the same before you cut off the flow of 'essences' to the throne and you'll be showing this biatch who's in control.

As far as battle strategies go, I found that most offensive magic had no effect (even with lower resistance and malision) so I concentrated on an all out assault. Ignore all her minions that she summons as they disappear at the end of each round. Just arm your party with the best +5 and +6 weapons and use your characters combat skills (greater whirlwind, critical strike, offensive spin etc.) and she'll go down quick. If you find that her demons are killing you too quickly, try summoning a planeter/deva and some greater elementals and positioning them BEFORE the confrontation begins. Even simulacrum can be effective to buy a little time but make sure you cast it beforehand. The only time you want to stop attacking is to drink a potion or cast breech to remove her globe of blades spell. And before you know it, it's over.

To be honest, my party was mainly magic based and not suited to combat but this tactic still worked a treat so I can only imagine what a group of fighters would do to her. My party constisted of:

Me (Sorceror level 30) Staff of the Ram +6
Minsc, Flail of Ages +5
Edwyn, Dagger of the Star +5
Haer'dalis, Foebane +5, Short sword of the Mask +5
Viconia, Storm Star +5, Club of Detonation +5
Imoen, Angurvadal +5

Well, hope this is some help to you. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice - I'm ready to take her on as well.

I tried her last night and her first incarnation kicked my arse. Ignore her summons? Okay, the 2 Bone Golems I can ignore - but the Elder Orb? Big problem was my PC who, as usual, fell subject to confusion - oh, and Jaheira got held. It was my first try - looks like this time I'll have PC (named Timber Loftis, dontcha know) hold the Equalizer to alleviate confusion, and Jaheira use a different shield which'll do the same. That sucks. The answer plus the axe (grants regeneration) are a great combo. I hate that I keep dragging out Dragon Sword, Equalizer, and Adjatha this late in the game to get over confusion, fear, etc.

Oh, and except for Mass Invis, I didn't buff before leaving pocket plan (didn't know I'd have an immediate cut to her).

The most effective (and least fun) way to kill melissan is to have a thief lay traps(not the time trap, it wont do squat against melissan. could get you killed)around the area where melissan appears. a few spike traps take her down quite nicely. though come to think of it, you dont have a real thief on you, so maybe skull trap, delayed blast fireball or glyph of warding would work better.

It can be extremely frustrating when some/all your team start getting held and confused during the game. It's a freakin' nightmare when it happens whilst battling Amoleslut;) Try setting up chain contingencies (preferably with simulacrum or another high level summons) that are activated when your character/s become helpless. This way you'll be keeping the ratio of your guys/her guys roughly even. It's important to remember that only your PC needs to survive to deliver the death blow in each round. All other characters can be restored at your leasure when she pisses off (provided they're not confused and wander over that bridge that's just appeared. If this happens, let em die!)

She has a shockingly large range of summons at her disposal and Elder Orbs are not the least. But their main attack is magic which is useless against planetars. When you confront her position your guys/gals in a ring around her and your planetar and other summons (which you cast before the fight, unless it's the first confrontation) flanking them. When she summons her minions(which usually always appear from the same locations) they will attack your summons first. If your outside line of defence is breached, use absolute immunity or improved mantle to buy some time. If your non-mages are under attack, just keep swillin' potions but don't attack her summons. She'll only make more while you're occupied.

You've got all the time in the worlds to resurect, repair, summon and save your game between stints so even if only your PC is left alive, alone, surrounded by demons, pants filling up - Dont stop swingin'.

If you have a cleric or druid there is NO EXCUSE WHATSOEVER FOR BEING CONFUSED OR SCARED.

Chaotic Commands and Remove Fear are painfully low level spells, and last a good long time. Use them, already, and employ the real weapons in lieu of the +2 ones.

Okay, I've beat the second incarnation. Now, I'm really getting creamed. Further help for this party is appreciated:
Stalker Answerer/Nasty Vorpal Axe
Keldorn Carsomyr
Aerie +6 Staff
Jaheira +5 Spectral Brand
Imoen SotM
Nalia +4 Short Sword

I don't see how I'm going to make it without resting. Advice? No, I don't have P.I. memorized. I just really want spells back. Howabout killing my own characters and then resurrecting with wand - that restores all spells right?

Thanks.

Do you have wish memorized or on a scroll? If you do, just gulp a potion of insight and hope that the rest option comes up. If you have no potions of insight, cast wish, pause the game and talk to the genie with a chracter with high wisdom.
