What ToB areas do check for drow items? Sacred Grove does. My -4AC armors dissolved. I don't like that. I could keep them for some time on the ground, but if it is every area, there is no point.

IIRC, only the Sacred Grove and Sendai's Enclave.

The Pocket Plane. Considering the number of times you're forced to visit it, the designers thought it would be an appropiate spot to check if you're still wearing that armor that should have disintegrated back in Chapter 6.

(On that note, however, you could just store a bunch of Drow Full Plate+5s somewhere, wear one, kill a Bhaalspawn and get sucked to the Pocket Plane where your armor crumbles, then you leave and go get your replacement.)

What's the point of it though? When I was in the Underdark, I found it easier to just use the armor I was already using. Besides the pieces of armor in TOB come with better bonuses to make up for their lack of AC.

Yes, but Drow Full Plates +5 (AC-4) are still the best I have. And there is a Drow Chain Mail (or sgt) that allows my f/t to use thieving abilities. And it is stronger than its elven counterpart. And there is one for Viconia that shortens casting time.
When I find better, I will use those, naturally.
