I hope someone out there can help me out.
\ \ \ --SPOILERS POSSIBLE: in order to get good feedback, I list some details of things I did - so don't say I didn't warn you about a possible early-game spoiler. \ \ \ \ I have recently installed ToB, after avoiding all bugs in SoA. I had the patches from Baldurdash on SoA, and ran the uninstaller before installing ToB. Then I ran the Baldurdash ToB patches. Began, and things went fine. Put Sarevok on hold, kept my main 6 characters, and went to Saradush. Saw opening scene, went to tavern and bought some junk, got key from temple, and talked to the guy missing his spell book (Lazarus?). Anyway, now I get loads of "appears busy - cannot initiate dialogue" responses. I cannot talk to the kids outside Lazarus's place, the fight between militia and the elfs just North of the Tavern won't happen, the jailor won't talk to me even though I successfully completed the mock-trial scene, Hectan won't initiate dialogue, dwarves and elves in tavern won't initiate dialogue, and the whores I'd like to hire (ONLY to break into the jail mind you, as angering Jaheira is -*ahem*- risky at best) are not even in the tavern anymore. Clues, advice, HEEEEEEEEEELLLLLP!!!!!!!????????? |
Welcome 2 Ironworks Timber!
You probably have Windows Xp or 2000 installed. Download the Official TOB patch and you'll be fine. Happy Gaming |
Okay, but is that patch different than the one on Baldurdash? I note that (and I should have mentioned that) I do run XP. Also, should I do something to uninstall the Baldurdash patch first or should I just install over it? Please tell me I don't have to reinstall the whole game. Oh, and I assume official patch is on Bioware website??
Thanks so much for the help. |

The Baldurdash are not the end all, be all of patches. You are supposed to install the ToB official patch first, then install the ToB Baldurdash Fixpack. Read the instructions in the readme file carefully next time.

Thanks, Lord Lothar, for the advice. Patched it last night and I'm up and running again - and staying up late, having trouble keeping my mind on work, etc. For those with XP, note that the official Bioware patch is the one the best deals w/ some XP problems. I simply over-installed on top of what was already there.
Final question: should I reinstall the Baldurdash fixes/tweaks? I'm thinking maybe the official patch overrode some of the baldurdash stuff, but I'm not sure. |
It may have done, so, better safe than sorry I have that problem as well, my computer runs xp proffesional.
