Another newbie question...Is there a limited number of poison charges in the Dagger of Venom? ...Or will it happily go on poisoning people forever?

My mage is proficient with the small sword category (right now is using a +2 dagger). The dagger of venom seems to be the best weapon in Baldur's Gate for this proficiency...Should I go ahead and pick it up?
