I have just recently bought BGII:Throne of Bhaal, I've read through the game manual and some questions arosed in my mind. First of all, the wild mage kit, is it worth considering? What are it’s pros and cons? And the NPC Sarevok, will he join good parties but will not have any conflicts with good aligned characters? Also the difficulty adjustments, which difficulty do most players prefer? Last of all, the pools, which skills are the best in the warrior and mage pool. I know this is a lot of ques., but please reply...

OK, first: Wild Magi. These are considered by some, including me, the most powerful Wizard class. Their benefits are: they get the extra spell slot that all specialist Mage kits get, but without the restriction in spell schools. Whereas other specialists can't learn spells from one or two schools, Wild Magi can learn them all, like a non-specialist. Furthermore, they are the only ones that can cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, a spell that lets you cast any spell in your book, regardless of level. It's quite a lot of fun to cast 9th level spells as a 10th level Mage. Only drawback to this spell is, that it always ends in a wild surge, so it will probably not go as planned. Those wild surges are their biggest con, but also something of a mixed blessing/curse. They can prove disastrous, like turning yourself to stone, but they can also be very handy: spells doing double damage, giving all your party members their own private timestop. All in all very powerful, and a lot of fun to play.
Sarevok: yes, he will join a good-aligned party. He will bitch a bit, but won't pick any fights, like Minsc vs Edwin and such. Actually, big brother is even more fun when tagging along to a good-aligned player character, he has a big surprise in store for you if you treat him right. Difficulty: I can't say much about this, as I always play on core difficulty. Haven't tried anything else. Skill pools, do you mean the High Level Abilities with this? For a Mage, Comet and Dragon's Breath are very good, and Improved Alacrity is the best: cast spell after spell, without having to wait a full round inbetween. For a Fighter, Greater Whirlwind is probably the best. |

. . . . . . . . . . . . Wild mage? Sorry no idea. You should let Sarevok join your party. He is a great tank. |

I agree: if you've played through a "normal" profession, the Wild Mage really adds a dash of life to the game. Even if you have to go back to a savegame because one of your surges has turned victory into defeat, who cares? It's a riot.

i just wish you could put reckless dweaomer (mispelled that probably) into spell triggers and contegencies =) heh have a contingency and spell trigger just sitting there waiting to be used that when it is triggered you can pick the spells on the fly, ahhh well i can see the balance reasons for not allowing it though =)

MoRe QuEsTioNs:
-Does wild surge always happen? -Does our character always save against them. -If Sarevok doesn’t pick a fight, but will Keldorn provoke him? Just like he did with V?????? (forgot her name after she died fighting with Keldorn...) |

quote:
Originally posted by theholyavenger:
-Does wild surge always happen?

No, there's only a 5% chance of a wild surge happening. Unless you cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, then it always happens.
quote:
Originally posted by theholyavenger: -Does our character always save against them.

No, only when the effect warrants a saving throw. For example, if you get the wild surge effect 'caster held', then your character must save vs spells, if he fails he is held, if he is successful, there's no effect. Beneficial effects never give a saving throw.
quote:
Originally posted by theholyavenger: -If Sarevok doesn’t pick a fight, but will Keldorn provoke him? I haven't had Keldorn and Sarevok in the same party ever, so I'm not 100% sure, but I have never heard of it happening. |
As one of the random effects of a surge, a cow can fall out of the sky onto your target. Just wondering whether this had ever happenned to anyone?
