i use power word stun for the chromatic demon (wk lv2). That works very well (or for me it did).

Melissan was cool but Chromatic Demon was disapointing. All you need to do is click on it With greater whirlwind attacks and though fighters it can be killed easily.
Let's get to Melissan, she was fine but she's easy if you got the right tactic. I used all my spells etc in first fight. Before the second battle, I layed spike traps on place where she forms. Each trap causes 60-70 damage and she was "near death" when the battle was started.. For third round, I used my wish scroll and layed traps again Ignore the mosnters get on Melissan |
I hate "faked" fight, where the monsters will get all his health back once you get him to near death, as is the case with mellisan.
I liked her a lot more in ascension, where you only fight her once, but for real. |
My mage killing tactic hve a lot of spell sequencers memorised with three magic missles in each kills most mages.
|
Well summon some helpers. Take 3 NPC's with ranged weapons and smack her. Let the tanks kill her helpers. Summon some more helpers. When her helpers are dead then you force everybody on her. Very simpel but effective.

I allways cast Improved Invisibility and run like hell screaming.
(not a sure fire tactic though,.. worse yet, i believe most of my enemies probably survived. Wouldnt know though, since i run away every time) Who knows , maybe this truly is a secret battle-tactic, ...*I'll never know*..... [ 03-01-2002: Message edited by: daan ]</p> |

Timestop + shapechange Mindflayer = 3 unavoidable hits and a sack of boss meat.

Sadly, in TOB, my need for strategizing has sort of gone out the window. Once your tanks start learning greater whirlwinds, the need for in depth tactical planning is greatly diminished. There pretty much no creature that will stand up to a few tanks surrounding him with greater whirlwinds. Its pretty much this...mages hang back, cast one or two anti-magic defense type spells...have tanks fire up greater whirlwinds...fights over. Tore demogorgon up in literally seconds this way. Had a lot more trouble with the critters he summoned with their magic weapon resistance.....that at least kept me busy for a while.
I guess I dont understand why the cloak of mirroring was downgraded, when it only really helped you eliminate beholders as a major threat. Having two or three fighter types with one or two greater whirlwinds a peice eliminates just about EVERYTHING as a credible threat. If youre capable of casting a couple storm of vengence spells, you could almost just take a nap thru those big hackfest battles. chev |
