if you cast it do they get better with time?? are they better when your a higher level, or are they just fun to have arround??

fable 01-23-2002 11:35 PM

They stay the same, but they're more than fun. For one thing, you gain hit points if you have a familiar. And each familiar has some extra features--an ability to pickpocket relatively well, magically aid in a battle, etc--that adds to their value. But you don't want a familiar to die. If it does, your character loses one constitution point. Permanantly.

They only get better once in the game, if you make the transition from SoA to ToB. They get more HP and extra abilities then. But they don't improve if you level up.

Is it only your main character that can have a familier?

Sir Wes Iron Grasp 01-24-2002 05:32 AM

They dont get better with time but you grow quite fond of them and they will feel like a member of the party but dont get them killed or kiss goodbuy 1 point of constatution perminitly

Yes. And then of course only if your main character is a Mage or Bard. And I think Beast Masters get a Familiar too, but I'm not sure on that one.

Word of advice: I wouldn't suggest learning the spell if you're running a sorc. Like any spell, it takes up one important slot in a sorc's limited repertoire of available spells; even at level 1, that's still a slot that could be put to better use with some other more defensive or offensive spell. And you really only want to cast it once in the entire game.

Yes, beast masters get one too. Thieves can also get familiars in TOB with the use all ability.
