not sure if its a bug or im missing some hidden bonus somewhere

im an assasin going through insane dif soloing, and ive seen some strange things happen with my backstab so far

using a quarter staff +1 and a base +1 str bonus my absolute max should be 8 damage right?
(1D6+1 weapon with +1 damage from str)

since my backstab currently should be 4x normal why am i seeing numbers in the forties when on a non critical hit i should cap out at 32? (although it is nice walking in and backstabbing those dwarves in the first dungeon and haven em drop in 1 hit)

is it a bug or am i missing some damage mods somewhere?

Any Strengh Bonus ? Or Any bracers BONUS ?

You gain bonuses for being hidden or invisible. AC, THAC0, and damage all get a bonus of +4 I think, as long as you remain unseen.

Oh, if it isnt the stealth factor, what are your proficiencies? They add damage as well.

this was still in the first dungeon so no bracers yet
and i added in my str bonus in the post above


and i just had 1 point into quarterstaff, short sword, and two handed weapons

2 handed proficiency adds damage... Wait till you get the Staff of the Ram. ;) After being upgraded... WATCH OUT!

I thought I read a thread that said(wow, poetry) you couldn't backstab with something that is not a piercing weapon. Since the staff is crushing, what's up...?

If you could only Backstab with a Piercing weapon, Cleric/Thieves would be SOL. So "Backwhacking" is perfectly legal.

lol, it certainly is as long as you don't try to cheese the game (use the staff of the mage... lol It won't work! ;) THAT would have been a serious oversight...).

Also, Monk's ninja-to won't backstab. Probably cause you need use any item for it or something. oh well lol
