i belive that playing on core(like me) is the best thing
i've been playing on core evere since i started the game? |
I am not very good at the game myself. I tend to not use my party very efficiently and rely on melee all the time. So I usually play on core. It just depends what you find challenging and fun. If you are new then core is definately the way to go - it makes the game more fun. If you want a real challenge and are prepared to put the time in then I recommend trying something harder.

There isn't a best or a worst: it's whatever you find most enjoyable for the strategies you employ, and the party you field. That's all that matters.

I started on Core, than moved to Normal, then back to Core, then went to Insane and stayed there.

My first game was a "normal" game. My second, and every one after that, has been on insane.
It really depends on your familiarity with the game, and what you prefer to play. Personally I like to start easy. |
Ooooohh.... which to choose...
I believe that core is the best. The easiest you can get without incurring a penalty on what experience you get. None of my friends play on normal or above because the games are soooooo long that having to reload the game 15 times just so that lady luck favours you on the 16th time isn't what I call fun, but I use the DVD version og BG2 so everything loads a lot slower. I'd stick with core, unless you think that you can handle someone like Bhodi or the Children of Bhaal with harsher rules. |
Barlik, it says in the manual that the only experience penalty comes on easy. Are you sure core is the lowest you can go without being penalized, cuz i am playing on normal and i hope i am not getting shafted on my xp.

I think it depends on the enjoyment of the game. With a sorcerer, things never hit you anyway with stoneskin and MI, so go for insane (200% of 0 = 0). If they get through you are screwed no matter what level.
Monks and kensai's(such as my duo game) are melee and have no armour. Very bad on insane, and make for a less enjoyable game. Took it down a notch, and it was doable. Don't suffer through insane just because some people think it is "cool" to do so. Games are supposed to be fun. *steps down from soapbox* |
I started and finished SoA on the middle setting (not sure if that's Normal or Core). I then installed ToB and started replaying from about the end of Chap5 or beginning of Chap6 and increased the difficulty up a level to hard for more of a challenge.
After chronic restart syndrome for a solo game (about 5 different restarts), I finished up with a solo Cleric/Mage on hard. I'm about to put it up to insane as it's getting far too easy again. Play with whatever you're happy with. If you never die, then it's probably too easy. |
Like in every game start easy and work your up
