Whenever I run the ordinary installation program, it never works. So I have now resorted to copying the entire contents of the CD onto my hard drive. But I don't know where to copy it to - should I do it in the already existing 'SoA' folder? Or create a new folder in 'Program Files'? Can anyone check how their ToB is installed and maybe give me a few hints on this? I'm pretty stuck, as you can probably tell :(
Thanks |
Just a thought .. are you trying to run via the cd autorun menu that opens when you first insert the cd into the cd-rom device?
If so, try this: go to Windows explorer click on your cd-rom device in the file listings look for a file called setup.exe double click to execute that and see if that works When you say that the installation never works, what exactly happens???? |

I just can't use the ordinary installation method, so copying the CD is all I can do. I basically just need to know which files to install into which folders, because I know it can be done manually. |
Since I'm at work and can't access my games/files from here (drat *sigh*) I'll double check when I get home from work in about 2 1/2 hours and either post a reply here or PM you. How's that?
Did you do a full install on BG2:SOA??? |

And I have SoA on recommended install (my comp isn't all that good and doesn't have much hard drive space, so I had to do it that way). Again, thank you |
no problem. I know exactly what you are looking for.
Just a thought - have you changed your computer configuration anytime between the time you bought SOA and the time you tried installing TOB? Something like adding another hard drive? |

I just completed BG I today, have SoA already installed and wanted to add ToB too, but that's where the problem lies. |
I'll check out those files like I said and let you know what I find out.

Arledrian,
Here is what I found out: It looks as though the TOB installation simply copies the necessary files into the SAME file directory and/or subdirectories that SOA was installed to. So if your installation path was: /program files/black isle/soa the tob files simply go into that file folder OR the appropriate subdirectory within that main directory the short cuts accessed thru the start up (lower left) now lists BG-Throne of Bhaal instead of BG-SOA as the short cut and should point to the NEW TOB executable in the main directory (BG-SOA) which is NOT renamed. I can not tell what dialogue/script/item files have been replaced / deleted or copied over without doing a complete file listing dump. You should be able to tell which files go where by looking at file types and file names though. For example, the AREXXXX.bif files all go into the /BGII-SOA/cache/data subdirectory but not ALL of the .bif files go there. Some are associated with Creature animations and those go into the /BGII-SOA/data/ directory. If you have any questions let me know! I hope this helps! |
