I am having a rough time completing the bandit camp. The enemy mage casts horror and my party crumbles in no time at all. I see where arrows of biting can kill the mage quickly but at this stage of the game are there any stratagies that could aid me in my dillema??
TIA

Hm, it has been quite some time I finished the bandid camp, but the mage in the tent I normally killed with a hasted char who ignored all the other guys in the tent. Another tactic is to charm one or two of the hobgoblins and have them shoot at the mage.

A strategy that I've used there with very low level parties is to use a mage casting magic missle and a melee fighter to take out the mage. the magic missles keeps the mage from being able to cast spells while the armed person kills him. The only other guy that is really dangerous there is the archer who is shooting the arrows of biting, I think, which means you need to run another character up to him and engage him in hand-to-hand combat. A first level party can win this fight without having to reload if you take care of the mage and the archer, I've found.

Good luck,

Resist Fear will protect you from Horror. If you don't have that spell you could go to High Hedge and buy it. If you have a priest who has learned Remove Fear that will remove the panic from the affected party members, but you're SOL if your cleric doesn't save against Horror. But anyway, as Katherine said, regardless definitely target the mage.

I cast protection from the evil and put 5 of my characters to fire arrows or stones, three towards Mage and gave two of them to Ogre archer and threw magic missiles towards him, and he was gone pretty quickly. In the meantime Mage hadn´t got a change to throw a single spell towards us and the arrows eventually upset him and he threw his towel to the corner. When they were gone, my group changed to melee towards the two guys left and succeeded better than I expected, and enemy only got 4hp damage done.

Fireball thrown to the furthest part of the tent could work, I´m not so sure though. There are so many good ways to clear this one.

If you want to end this fitght even before it starts use Algernons Cloak. I used it on one melee enemy (i dont know the name) and sent him after the mage. The rest of the party can take care of the second melee and maybe use Algernon for the archer.

I think Algernon is the answer for almost all of the hard fights in the game (even Sarevok can be killed this way).

All the people I try and charm make their saving throws. I wish there was some way past this :(

C'mon, guys, listen to Uncle Lemernis--Resist Fear. Then just open fire on the Mage as soon as you enter the tent (before he even goes hostile), and if he does manage to get his Mirror Image off, a decent THAC0 will leave him vulnerable before he finishes casting Horror. Send a Tank kinda-close to the Hobgoblin to distract him and the two Fighters, and the battle's yours.

But I, myself, don't do it that way.....I prefer a more 'surgical' strike, in this instance. The only person I kill is Tazok, and then start Chapter 4 and leave the Bandit Camp without anyone else even going hostile. (I can always come back later for Taugosz's armor and that bitchin' Longbow.) Hee, hee!

(Taugosz Tenhammer has NO need for 'people skills.')

Hmm, doesn't Resist Fear only work on one character at a time?

Anyway, this may seem like a dumb question... but which one of the goons inside the tent is Tazok?

Isn't it Remove Fear and not Resist Fear??

And Remove Fear works on the whole party, and will solve the Horror problem as was said. As long as an archer is focussing on the Mage, he won't get a spell cast.

And Algernon CAN be the answer to everything, as I have had the cloak the last two times I have completed the game, but never used it. Fights are still very easy without it!! Hehe,,but next time I defo will use it!
