I just recently got high enough level
to memorize time stop. I was just curious
what are some good spells to cast during
the time stop, and does anyone else pause the
game right after this spell goes off?, or
is this just a bad habit.

MuWahHAHAHAHA!!!! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/devil/firedevil.gif

Assuming you have the Robe of Vecna and Amulet of Power.

Just use this combo, Time Stop --> Improved Alacrity.

You will be able to exhuast most, if not all, of your offensive spells before the Time Stop runs out. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Oh, and I always set the Autopause to pause when a spell is casted.

Ditto to that

It's beyond sick the damage you do with time stop, robe of vecna, amulet of power and improved alacrity-more so if you play a sorceror and cast 6 or 7 finger of death spells, multiple abi dalzims, mazes etc etc at the group that was (notice the past tense) trying to stop you going about your legitimate son of godly business. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

bad habit??? that's elementary practice, my friend! once you cast that spell, the duration clock is ticking! i don't think pausing at any point in the game could be considered a bad habit....

To this day, i still take tremendous delight in recalling the beauty of using Time Stop with my old elven fighter-mage, Thalion.
He would cast Time Stop, followed by Improved Alacrity...then throw a few resistance-killers at the dragon, and then go up close combat style and just completely smash the bastard with his dual-wielded katanas and longswords. i remember specifically, when he fought Draconis, that he did pretty much this thing...then kicked in his greater whirlwind for his close attack, and by the time the Time Stop duration ran out, the dragon's lifeless corpse collapsed to the ground while Thalion was in mid-swing.
Time Stop is a beautiful thing! it's one of the main reasons i love playing mages in BG/ToB.

suggestions:

cast alacrity before time stop; no sense in wasting those precious few segments.

don't bother with the long casting time offensive spells, especially wilting (casting time of 8), until youve gotten off whatever other spells you want.

go with the gimping spells before the kill spells, like malison, lower resistance, slow, pierce magic, etc. the kill/damage spells work much better if theyre not blocked by a save or magic resistance, and the disabling spells have virtually nil casting times.

firstly, Alcarity fits perfectly into the remaining duration of Time Stop (lasts for 3 rounds i think, Alcarity is 2 rounds with a 1 round casting time). also, if you have the items Robe of Vecna and the Amulet of Power on the mage, you can cast that at a rate of 3. useful, huh? and finally, i agree with the magic resistance killing items vs enemies like dragons, but unless your using non-direct damage spells, a gimping spell is almost useless when you could be firing off a heavy offensive spell or sequencer.

*snigger*

I never cast ADHW, I cast Chain Contingency which has a casting time of 0 and put 3 ADHW in it. Voila, you just packed a party-friendly 'fireball' that will deal 120-240 damage in an area.
