I waited anxiously in SoA for the Gauntlets of Crushing which are +4 to hit and damage. Now I have found Tzu-Zan's gauntlets.

Which do u use for your monk?

Gauntlets of Crushing

Ronn_Bman 09-27-2001 02:50 PM

The gauntlets of crushing are awesome, but now my THACO is +8 without them and it doesn't affect my damage because I'm wearing one of the giant belts. I'm thinking the benefits of the latter might be worth trying for awhile.

Anybody else use them?

Anyone know if the Guantlets of Crushing work when transformed? (I know that "Single Handed Weapon Style" does, and that fists count as a Single Handed Weapon.)

If so, they'd be great for a Bard or Mage/Thief (or Thief with a Cloak of the Sewers) who took the "Use Any Item" ability.

Gauntlets of Crushing were held by the Prince of the Sanguin (I know that's not exactly right, but you know, the shark people). After leaving Irenicus' lair, you choose to travel back by boat and get attacked enroute. Your party is taken to their underwater lair.

You side with either the "Shark" King or Prince. I've heard people say you get the gauntlets either way after killing everyone, but I had to side with the King to find them on the Prince's body. It didn't work the other way around.

That's correct, you must side with the king in order to get the gauntlets.

Thanks for the confirmation.

You know, I thought this was pretty crappy. I realize it probably only matters if you play a monk, but if you do...

I think it's stupid to make a PC monk miss their best tool in SoA because they chose the wrong side. What if your playing toward's your alignment? What if you were just drunk when you played that night http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif Without this forum, I would have missed what I'd waited for since choosing a monk.

Making the wrong choice as a fighter might cost you a cool weapon, but cool weapons aren't in short supply with BG! I actually missed out on finding Celestial Fury, because I waited for a quest to take me to the house where it's located, but that quest never came.........BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE! You just kick butt in the house, and take it. But I really don't feel I missed too much because there are so many excellent weapons for fighters. But when it comes to the gaunlets, I'm a little more sensitive...lol

As mentioned at the top of this thread, I really don't need them anymore, but when I got them, they made my monk the parties MAIN rump kicker. And isn't that every protagonist's goal :-D

Do you really receive the benefits of Single Handed Weapon Style while using fists?
