Soon I am going to go through the whole BG serries. From BG 1 to ToB. I am only having one problem. I cant decide on a character. I usally play Ranger or Paladines but I think I might try somthing new.
I am usally Human or Elf but I think I might change that as well. Anyone got any suggestions? |
I've just finished the whole series for the 2nd time (1st as a Paladin, 2nd as a Ranger) and I know where you are coming from ;)
I was going to do a dwarven cleric but then I'd lose out on a romance - Viconia's all I've got left to do (apart from Anomen...bleeech) I'm thinking a half elf thief/mage or an Elven Druid, Dunno, I always spend ages trying to decide what class/character to play. |
I love spellcasting so I would do it as a mage. Plain old vanilla, non-specialized mage. And actually now that NwN won't be out until the summer I might do just that.
I've heard druids get enormously powerful in BG2. I might consider that also. Although I could not bring myself to roleplay an environmental wacko Avenger which is probably the most powerful kit. I would have to pick Shapeshifter, I think. I've recently gained a new appreciation for bards. I really like playing them now. Not sure what the best kit would be though. |
I'm doing it with a Half-ling Theif....
But for some reason, Dwarven fighters I like a lot...I get visions of Gimli!!! Druids also are cool! |

Rangers are good, too, especially if you play as an archer type (like Kivan), or dual-class to cleric. Mages are probably the hardest to finish BG1 with, but become very powerful in SoA and ToB. Just think of a good concept for your character, then choose accordingly. You will get more satisfaction this way. |
I'm trying just a neutral cleric. it's pretty fun

That's a good question, Grand-Ranger, and one that I've been trying to find out the answer to for a long time... I'd recommend playing a character that is somewhat underpowered, or at least one that has a flaw, a chink in his armor. These characters prove to be more interesting in the long run in my experience and you can be more proud of their victories and accomplishments if you have to struggle some and find ways around your weaknesses.

If you want fun, go for a bard. If you want to be powerful, play a mage or a fighter/cleric (both cases human). I try a lot of combinations and possibilities but always usually come back to either one of the aforementioned classes.
