I think it benefits the opponent partially.
You want to continously attack an opponent in melee, not hit it and then have to chase after it and hit it again.
This gives the opponent time to run, and use ranged weapons/spells.
I just love the dragon blow you away thing. Once my party was clse to death in BG2 against Firkraag in melee, and he blew me away. I healed and went back.

To use smite effectively, you must smite him/her/it against a wall. Smite stuns, so you get free hits.

Smite is also useful to smite minions away while you work on the Boss.

I used smite in the fight with Melissan, blew all her minions away so that I could concentrate on spanking her naughty little butt. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...les/tongue.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif

Smite also works against Mind Flayers, http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif, heh, finally, you become more irritating than them. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...miles/wink.gif Smite made most fights for me a walk in the park, LOL. I love smite, I just hate it that they only allow you to have one per fighter. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/noncgi/smiles/mad.gif

Oh, by the way, Archer and Smite are made for each other, LMAO. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gifhttp://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif Your Archer spends one shot per target to stun them, so that your tanks get to beat the enemy senseless with no danger, oh, and did you know? Smite stuns Beholders too.

With proper usage, Smite rocks.

Smite is so fricking AWESOME........... for my archer. Smite can knock away opponents that swarm my mages, and for archers, it's better than whirlwind, because you can get 9 attacks per round with imp haste, and then smite away 9 opponents in one round, then cast critical strike at the beginning of next round, and get 9 critical hits against the main boss, while the lackeys are stunned against the wall.

Smite is good for the ego though. Nothing like watching an enemy get blown away and bounce off walls. If you get the angles right it can be like playing pool. http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif

I agree. I found the staff of the ram and I thought, wow 1d6+12 (or something). But it could be +100 but you're not doing damage when your opponent is on the other side of the room. So I don't use it anymore

Depends on where you use it. Against one big baddie with a bunch of lackeys it kicks. Either whack all the weak monkeys away or smite the main guy far far away.I had my monk Smite Balthazar across the room then use Greater Whilwind and beat the crap out of him while he was against the wall http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...es/biggrin.gif
