Thinkin of starting a new SP game with main as cleric, from bg1 (with ToSC) to ToB. Was just wondering if anyone who has played a cleric as main character had any good or bad points about it. Cleric is my favorite AD&D class, just wondering how it holds up in the BG campaigns.
Thanks in advance.

A cleric is, imo, the best class in the game. Some might say that their spells are mostly non-combat spells and for the most part, they are right but which level 1 class can kill an ogre ? The cleric can. I did it, casted entangle and proceded to beat his butt. But if you want to take that character all the way through the saga, it might be a better idea to start as a fighter and dual class to cleric. Dual at level 9 or 13 in BG2. As for a kit. I always liked the berserker/cleric dual class.

Yes, start as a fighter and dual to cleric. Great class, a lot of fun to play. Forces you to be creative. It's great to be able to melee and cast spells. And stoked on Holy Power and Righteous Magic, dual wielding the Flail of Ages and Storm Star...

I've played a straight cleric through the whole saga, choosing the Priest of Lathander kit in BG2. I was surprised at how well he held his own, with the ability to cast entangle, Silence, and summon Skeletal helpers in BG1. And his Undead-turning ability in BG2 was absolutely outstanding - he was even blowing up liches by Chapter 6.

clerics are really good imo. i'm playing one right now and I love holding an enemy and killing him slowly :D

One of my first BG1 characters was a Cleric. I never finished the game with him (got to Ch. 5 then computer got whiped out with a virus :( ), but he did very well. He would have been MUCH better had I dualed him from a Fighter though... If I could do it again I'd probably dual him over at level 3 and put 3 stars into blunt weapons and 2 stars in slings.

I never cared for clerics much. I don't like characters that can't use pointy weapons.

Having said that, I did play a cleric who worshiped shoes in PnP once and had her open a shoe store (magic pumps and preternaturally comfy shiny black leather boots with the pointiest of toes). She was a fun character, actually. I just don't see the fun in BG where options are so limited, though.

<font color="cyan">Hmmm, If I was going to start BG again it would be as a Cleric on its own. I wouldnt dual him from a fighter, as Cleric's can hold their own in battle when need be, and if you train them in the art of maces, they can deal out damage even when all spells are used. My brother's favourite class is a Cleric, and I would like to try it myself sometime. Go with a SP Cleric!!

Who says Clerics have to kill their enemies SLOWLY?

A couple higher-level spells:
Harm: (Range: Touch) Reduces the enemy to 1 hitpoint
Implosion: Does 10D10 Blunt damage and 10D10 Fire damage to 1 target (save for half)
Finger of Death: Save vs. Spells or die instantly

Also some nifty things like Mass Raise Dead, False Dawn (great against Undead).....oh, yeah.

Me, I say wait longer to Dual-class your Berserker->Cleric. Level 18. More hitpoints, MUCH better THAC0 & Saving Throws.
