I really think the mages are being discriminated in SoA/ToB

In SoA, the Fighter, a brutish thug made only of muscles, gets a castle in the beutifull country, lordship and owning all the villages/villagers in the area.
The wizard, a sage, the most powerfull beings in the world get a big unfriendly, dungeon-looking globe in the slums. The globe also destoys his nabours houses, so they will hate him the rest of their lifes.

In ToB, the spellcaster is the only one NOT given any highlevel-abillitys.
Sure, they get some nice spells, but what does it matter?
What really annoys me is that the common thief and the shamefull bard can write scrolls, but not the wizard!

Don't be so harsh my friend. That globe was cool! It gave you the best robe in the entire game, you just had to be patient. I hate how they took out dimension door. You could've used that spell, and it's all over AD&D novels. I didn't like how you had to memorize the 10th level spells either. I suppose you have a good point...

I guess the fighter gets the simple life 'cos that's what he finds appealing. The thought of owning a heavily magical, planar dungeon stuffed with all manner of arcane gadgetry would make any self-respecting mage go weak at the knees! Complex man, complex wishes.

The simple bonus of being able to take extra 6th, 7th and 8th spell slots I found was much more a bonus - don't forget that. And who wants all those stupid low-level scrolls anyway? A refined magic-user has no need of such petty scribings and cantrips!

Well, had you just been able to do something with the Sphere enchanting Items in it, create great golems or travel through the planes, I would have been happy with it. Or if it just had been placed somewhere else than in the slums.

And ye, extra spells per level is better than the low-tomid-level scrolls. But from RP-perspective, I would still prefer the last option.
