Try naming a mage Jon Irenicus, (get the portrait and everything) and trying ToB with him. Choose the God option as your decsion, and you basically forfilled jon's ambition. Same for Melissan. Start SoA as a female mage/cleric named Melissan and give her the rightful portraits...... BAM! we have a melissan (in training)

You can also make a Ellsime. She has her own large portrait like irenicus and will make a great char. I think she's a fighter cleric but i could be wrong. Make her an elf and your on your way.
