Has anyone used this sword to good effect? LOOKS POWERFUL. But maybe more trouble than it's worth if the user goes haywire. I don't know whether to give it to Minsc or sell it. Looks like I would need to use remove curse spell (Branwen has one) to undue its assignment.

Here's how my group, with their current levels, generally lines up to go on their adventures:

Minsc 6
Kivan 6
Imoen 7
Branwen 7
Dynaheir 7
Magi (my character) a mage 7

And we're on our way to Durlag's Tower (with lots of magic missiles in hand)

I wouldent bring too many arrows to Durlags tower, I just got through there and there are magic arrows everywhere, if you bring too many you won't have enough room for booty.

Hey thanks -- I was going to load up Imoen and the gang with lots of acid arrows and such. Guess I will re-think. Hope your own journey thru the tower went well.

Thanks for reminding me about this, I've been meaning to try it. I'm going to have my evil party get it. I wonder if a helmet of charm protection might do the trick... As far as unequipping it goes you do need a priest or mage to cast Remove Curse, but a priest gets that with level 3 spells.

I hope "Remove curse" can let you un-equip it. The first time I went through BG I picked up the belt of opposite sex (?) from that ogre south of the Friendly Arm and remove curse did NOTHING to help me remove it. I'll tell 'ya, Viconia was never the same since :D
I wouldnt recommend equiping the Beserk Sword, especially not in Durlags Tower. Minsc would be trying to kill your own party members whilst setting off every deadly trap in the place. You need to step very lightly in Durlags house

This is probably a really stupid question, but if you cast 'remove curse' on this sword, does this mean that you can continue to use it as an ordinary +3 weapon?

Lemernis 01-28-2002 02:04 PM

Not a stupid question at all. Nope, as it says in the spell description for Remove Curse it doesn't do that, so if you equip with it again you are cursed again. But I wonder if Kiel's Helmet in Durlag's would prevent the berserking from the Brage's sword.

J'aran 01-28-2002 02:52 PM

No, I think curses override beneficial effects, so Kiel's Helmet wouldn't take care of the negative effects of the sword.

And to answer the original question, no, don't equip the sword on Minsc. As others already point out, the positive effects (+3) don't weigh up to the negative ones. Especially not since you can find a non-cursed Two Handed Sword +3 within the Tower.

Nope, Kiel's helmet only negates fear effects, it won't prevent berserking.
