Hey everyone. I am rather new here and stuck... well not really stuck but curious in the middle of Playing Baulders Gate (with TOTSC installed as well) . As the heading stated, I wanted info on the Merchants League building in the city of Baulders Gate... can it ever be opened? And how does one do so. From my experience playing the game, every time you get that long winded message ".. the door is magically sealed." or something to that effect, it usually means that your group has to do something special or a key is needed to open the door. Can anyone shine some light on that subject for me? PUWWWWWWWWWWWWWWEEEEESSSSE :)

Hey Pantera, welcome to IronWorks! Does your alias by any chance have something to do with the metal band of the same name?
Anyways, to answer your question, the Merchant League building has something to do with a certain quest from TotSC, and can't be entered until you accept this quest in Ulgoth's Beard. But rest assured, you can get access to it. |
It kinda depends wich building he is talking about. The one on the same map as the Blushing mermaid inn has indeed something to do with the beforementioned quest in Ulgoths but it can be entered before acepting the quest. Iirc that is. If he is talking about the one on the map with the Flaming fist HQ then you have to save the guy in one of the Cloackwood areas. The one who is attacked by druids. Don't remember his name right now but you'll run across him standing in front of some cabine. If you help the druids you can't enter that buildig ever. If you help him, you'll meet him later standing in front of that building and he'll ask for some assistance and then you can enter the building.

Ah yes, you're right. The cabin of that merchant guy you're talking about is in the first or the second area of the Cloakwood Forest. If you rescue him he gives you another quest when you find him in Baldur's Gate, Right?

Kewl.. thanks for the quick responses JR & J'aran! And yes, I have a fond weakness of the heavy pounding music that is known as Pantera. I saw them in Calgary for the first time a few months back and I was quite impressed. Anywho, yes, I was refering to the building in the city by the Flaming Fist compound. Unfortunately I let my characters soft heart feel for the druids so I sided with them and ended up killing bad guy in the Cloakwood. To save me from doing the game over, is there anything important in the Merchants League building? The game is proving to be quite a long one at this point because I have done every side quest that I have run across so far in the game... I have even maxed out on EP and i haven't even returned to Candle Keep yet to find it infested with dopplegaggers (hope I don't loose "points" for spelling errors haha)

There's nothing too critical in the Merchant League headquarters....Aldeth Sashenstar would have given you a quest that involved killing more doppelgangers (provided you killed the Druids instead of him, of course), and would have rewarded you with a Bastard Sword+1, that's also +3 against doppelgangers and other shapeshifters. Anyway, since you killed Aldeth, you already HAVE that sword, and I hope you like crossbows, because you're about to get a really good one when you meet Aldeth's brother.
|
Ah, interesting. My basically good bard and druid just met up with Aldeth and sided with him because that is what I always do... But would it be more fun to side with the druids? (They're Shadow Druids allied with the Iron Throne, though, aren't they?)
|
hm...i dont think that the shadow druids like the iron throne much.. because they destroy the forest...
|
Turadan is right, the Shadow Druids certainly aren't aligned with the Iron Throne. They even offer to send Faldorn with you to help stop them.
