Does the spell "Protection from Magic Weapons" protect the caster from being hit by the Holy Avenger sword Carsomyr?

Yes.

Yes to which? I just realized I screwed up, and the title and content of this thread look like two different topics.

:oops:

PfMW will block Carsomyr. PfMW blocks all enchanted weapons without exception.

Slight clarification: PfMW blocks all weapons that strike as enchanted weapons. Meaning that you could have a weapon with all sorts of magical whoop-dee-doo on it, but if it strikes as a Normal weapon, it will penetrate PfMW. You just would never be able to use it to hit things like Vampires, Golems, Elementals, Liches, Rakshasa, etc.

There are no "normal-weapon-but-with-enchantments" in the default game, however, nor have I ever heard of any provided in a mod.

But, if a baddie can be targetted by a carsomyr weilding paladin, won't the sword striking the enemy dispell the protection?

If not (as I'm understanding the posts above mine), will the ability to cast Dispel Magic from the sword work (IIRC, you can actually cast "Dispel Magic" from the sword 3x/day)?

The first hit won't strike, but it will, in theory, dispell the PFMW, and the next hit will do damage.

No. Since the weapon does not hit, effects that only occur on a hit (namely, Carsomyr's Dispel) do not come into play. You can swing Carsomyr until the cows come home and never do a damn thing if your taget has enough PfMWs and/or Absolute Immunities.

But Carsomyr's Dispel Magic 3x/day, however, can penetrate PfMW. But it doesn't always work: Since it's a spell, it can be blocked by SI:Abjuration, and it also has to take into account the caster's level: I don't know what level Carsomyr's Dispel casts at, but let's say it's 20. If the Mage who cast PfMW is also Level 20, then the Dispel Magic has only a 50% chance of dispelling the PfMW.

I think(am not sure but) my character is a wizard slayer and when he is hitting at a wizard with protection from mag weaps on and hes not doing any damage most the time the wizard starts failing his spells so im thinking even tho hes not doing any damage its still having an affect....is this correct??

Okay, there seems to be a lot of confusion over these matters. Time to clarify things methinks.
~~~~ ~~~~
The following will block Carsomyr+5
..) Protection from Magical Weapons
..) Absolute Immunity
The following will block a Wizard Slayer's innate Miscast Magic when he is wielding an unenchanted weapon,
..) Protection from Normal Weapons
..) Mantle
..) Improved Mantle
..) Absolute Immunity
The following will block a Wizard Slayer's innate Miscast Magic when he is wielding an enchanted weapon,
..) Protection from Magical Weapons
..) Mantle, if weapon enchantment is +2 or less
..) Improved Mantle, if weapon enchantment is +3 or less
..) Absolute Immunity, if weapon enchantment is +5 or less
~~~~ ~~~~

If any of you is STILL confused over this matter, I can only advise you to do the following,

When in doubt, Breach first.

It will work MOST of the time.
