I'm playing a game where I'd like to give the arcane spellcasting NPCs familiars (as they're allowed in AD&D 2e). I'm starting the game in multiplayer, and then moving the characters to single player.

You don't. Only the PC can have a familiar.

you can put them into a inventory slot cant you? i have never played a mage pc, so im not sure. you could make a mage in one game, put the familiar into the inventory. then export, then import him/her into char slot 2 in your MP game. then save, move the save file into the sigle player fave directory, then load from there.

If you want a bioware npc to have a familiar, i dont know, maybe you could Shadow Keeper a familiar into their inventory.

All this advice is untested, and i dont think it will work, but its a possibility you might try

I think you can drink a potion from your inventory, then pause the game and replace the place where the potion is with the familiar scroll, and then the NPC will cast the familiar spell. I don't know if this works for NPCs, but it supposedly works for the main character even if he is a non-mage

As a technicality Klorox, this is double posting :D and didn't I already answer this question for you in the *other* forum?

Yes, it's out! Klorox and I have been cheating on this forum!

I'm sorry. I couldn't resist.

And no, no NPC's having familiars...

No this doesn't work for other NPCs.
What you described is simply a way to cause non-magic users to cast scrolls (or basically use any item they are not allowed normally). If mage NPCs cast familiar from scroll they get message it can only be done by protagonist, no matter whether they do it normally or via your trick.
