I'd have to take a Druid through BG1 for the STR tome for this combo to work, but it sounds like a really interesting combo.

Just wondering, is a Avanger 12 > Fighter a good character? I'd hate to waste all that time building a character that will eventually stink anyway.

Go for an 13th level Avenger, if you want my opinion. Avengers are solid creatures on their own, and fighters help them out quite well. Use Fire Elementals. They are joyous creatures. Once you turn into a fighter, either grab sword and shield style or two handed weapon style. A good combo is Fireseed + GDB.

I'm sort of torn as to whether to advise you to go for spears and staves, or clubs and scimitars. Either route would go well, as long as you also hold onto a sling and throwing dagger.

I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that an imported Avenger (wrongly) does not have the same stat losses as a newly created one, at least not without Baldurdash-Weidu.

lol - you're as bad as me for speculating on characters ;)

character would be fine - you'll end up being most powerful in melee i'd have thought although with some solid buffs, healing and summons - the insect spells will help a lot against mages

my guess is that once you're a decent fighter you'll stop doing much shapechanging but you never know

Illumina famously soloed an avenger - see here (many spoilers of course)
