After Yoshi's betrayal, I'm assuming I can't get him back.(Please don't spoil it if I can), but I need a replacement.

I want to know who is the best replacement, Jan, Nalia or Imoen. It's out of these three as I need a thief. Aerie is already in my party, so I have a mage.

So, in what order would you take these three?

Jan
Imoen
Nalia

Jan's just a lot more useful, to me, anyways, being multi-class theif/mage rather than dual-class. I'd take Imoen as the next choice because her theif skills are better than Nalia's, and nalia's too whiney.

Well, I prefer Imoen in a power party (she covers what you really need out of a thief, and becomes an awesome mage). Imoen is also a must have (IMHO) if you're really roleplaying.

I prefer Jan if I'm having fun, or want to do some really cool thieving things, like pick pockets, backstab, set traps, and dispel illusions. He still makes a pretty good mage, and his banters are just awesome.

I'd choose Nalia if I wanted to torture myself. She reminds me waaay too much of rich uppity Hollywood types who force their ways on others, but aren't in touch with the real world. He soundset is bad, her attitude is worse, and I prefer (SPOILERS TO FOLLOW) to allow her to get kidnapped, complete the quest, and then tell Nalia she's too much of a pain to keep around.

Cheers guys, Imoen was my first choice, based on roleplaying value!

i prefer jan. He actually isn't a great mage in my party...probably because I give most of the scrolls to the more advanced Edwin . However, he's a very good thief, and he has room to advance unlike Imoen and Nalia. If you want to take Imoen, who is a far better mage than Jan, then just keep a bunch of potions to increase her thieving whenever you need it.

Yeah... I'd carry around the thief skill-enhancing items in a Bag of Holding to haul out when you actually need Immy to be a thief. That, combined with the odd potion, should let you coast all the way to the end.

I have never needed to use a potion with Imoen, her thieving skills are more than adequate already.

Kyrvias 07-02-2005 01:07 AM

really? I found her Pick Pockets a little lacking ;)

SixOfSpades 07-02-2005 01:41 AM

Everybody's PP is lacking. Any Thief or Bard, no matter who, is going to need a couple of Potions if you want reasonable odds of not getting caught. But since Potions of Master Thievery flow like water in this game, all characters with even the slightest innate Pick Pockets ability are equal. Sure, diss Imoen for not being able to Set Traps, or Detect Illusions, but don't malign her filching skills.

That's not true, a homemade thief with 200 PP will rob most people blind without trouble. ;)
